C2E2 Hits Chicago by Jonathon Paparella

The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo or more commonly known as C2E2 is returned to McCormick Place in downtown Chicago for its 17th year last week.

C2E2 gathers all corners of the nerd world. Comics, movies, television, anime, manga, toys and even video games step into the spotlight for one weekend of celebration.

One of the cornerstones of C2E2 is cosplay. Cosplay, also known as costumed play gives fans the opportunity to dress up as their favorite characters and showcase their handcrafted creations.

Jacob McFarlane, 22, has been cosplaying at C2E2 for the last five years. Jacob cosplays because “It’s a form of escapism, pretending to be someone from somewhere else. Doing these things can be quite appealing.”

With all the Fans and cosplayers filling McCormick Place there was still space for a few celebrity appearances. Famed comic creator Stan Lee will be in attendance along with Danielle Panabaker of the Flash, Vincent D’Onofrio from Daredevil, and Michael Cudlitz from the Walking Dead and more!

With C2E2 drawing so much attention it has grown larger than just the Chicago area. People from neighboring states come out to experience the convention. Jeff Dobberpuhl, 54, a Minnesota resident will be attending C2E2 for the first time. Jeff is traveling cross country to “scout for comics for my collection, check out cosplay and media stars, while hanging with friends.”
